PLOT

David Wilde is a 26 year old renowned violist and a talented musician with a promising career. His best friend and manager, Martin, sees David as a rising star. David's wife, Rachel, does not trust Martin and believes that her and her daughter, Dakota, take second place to David's music.

Disaster strikes when David suffers a stroke that leaves him handicapped in the worst way imaginable, he looses his ability to play and hear his music. Not being able to cope, Rachel walks away from their marriage and from their daughter Dakota leaving her in the already incapable hands of David. David decides to move in with his mother at her ranch in California, a woman who David knows can take care of both him and Dakota who runs the “Rocking Horse” ranch, a place for both horses and people to be rescued and healed. David’s healing progresses slowly at first, as does the healing of his fractured relationship with his mother.

On the ranch David meets a fourteen year old girl named Kelly (nicknamed "Munk") who brings some childlike laughter and innocence back into his life. David’s friendship with Munk also reconnects him to his old high school friend Johnny, Munk's old brother and guardian. Johnny reintroduces David to the sport of MMA Fighting. That’s when David’s old flame comes back into the picture. Music.

David discovers that when he’s fighting he can hear and compose his music again. But are his old dreams and ambitions still the most healthy ones? During this time David and Munk develop a deeper, sort of mentorship, friendship in their time together on the ranch. Tragedy strikes another blow at David when he finds out that Munk, only fourteen, has leukemia. David is forced to come to terms with the fact that life isn't fair. David’s attempts at being able to play the viola again remains a constant source of frustration as it continues to prove itself impossible. But David knows not all is impossible, and so he turns his energy to fighting, both in the ring and at home in the family. David begins to be a dad to his daughter Dakota and they grow closer than ever before. Then Rachel comes back in the picture to tell David that she wants to take custody of Dakota. She promises to pay David in order to take away their daughter but David doesn't care about the money anymore.

Munks leukemia grows much worse and escalades towards fatality. David spends time at the bedside of Munk to keep her company, but it’s not enough. David wants to do something special for Munk, so he surprises her with a date from the guy she had a crush on. David, realizing that the real music in his mind where the relationships he had created with his family, composes a special song for Munk’s date. Not long after, leukemia takes over and Munk passes away. Through sorrow comes unity. Through unity comes family. These are the lessons that David needed to learn in order to be a better man, father, son, grandson, friend, Musician.
